My name is Luis C. Medina, and I worked at the Daily Egyptian, the student run newspaper of Southern Illinois University Carbondale, for three semesters. I started as the low-man on the sports desk’s totem pole before becoming Assistant Sports Editor and Sports Editor along the way.
My legacy includes the DE Sports Lounge and Sports Huddle, which were weekly video segments that analyzed the top sports stories on campus and around the country, being the Cubs homer/voice of reason on a desk full of Cardinals fans, wearing sweatervests, and getting on SIU head basketball coach Chris Lowery’s good side.
The DE Revival web log will detail the happenings at the Daily Egyptian during the Spring 2010 campaign as Diana Soliwon and Anthony Souffle take over. The DE vets will serve as EIC (Editor-In-Chief) and ME (Managing Editor), respectively as they aim to restore the image of the long-standing campus paper, which has been hit by hard times of late.
Follow this blog, which will give you an inside look on how a college paper is done — and hopefully — done well.
